What an adventure my life has become and it’s only just begun. Flash back to Cinco de Mayo, the night before the Orange County Marathon. Or shall we call it Cinco de Drinko (for my neighbors that is). This means no sleep for me. There was hooting and hollering and dogs barking all night long. I set my alarm for 3am and finally fell asleep at 1. A whole two hours of sleep before race day. Awesome.
It’s ok, it’s marathon day, and with a strong cup of coffee we are up and ready to run the Orange County Marathon. We arrived at the starting line 30 min before the gun goes off and all is well. This is supposed to be a taper Marathon, as David would call it. He wanted me to run a 5:25 marathon. I wasn’t having it. After Big Sur, this marathon was so flat, I could have made pancakes on it. It felt so easy and I was loving it. I started last because of some technical difficulties, but ended up running a 4:49. David popped in at mile 11 and I saw Claudia one of my G6ers about to PR the half marathon, it was so awesome to see them.
We have come a long way. Last year I didn’t even get to run the Orange County Marathon, I was signed up for the full, opted to run the half due to an injury from Boston then got sick race morning and had my first DNS (did not start). But look at us now. We are about to start Marathon number 5, in 5 weeks and I am feeling great. We are on a roll! Palisades Colorado, (where ever that is) Here we come. It just goes to show set backs will come and set backs will go just Never Give Up!
